Pierre Mazairac
Pierre Mazairac (Maartensdijk, 1943) is a Dutch furniture and interior designer who gained international recognition through his functional and innovative designs. After studying at Artibus Academy in Utrecht, he worked as a stylist and interior architect before joining UMS-Pastoe in 1972.
Together with Karel Boonzaaijer, Mazairac created Vision in 1985, the iconic handleless cabinet system that put Pastoe back on the international map. Their collaboration from 1980 to 1995 under the design studio Mazairac and Boonzaaijer & partners resulted in numerous successful designs for brands like Leolux, Metaform, Castelijn and IKEA. Their work was characterized by a shared belief in functionality over decoration and a relentless pursuit of minimalist beauty.
Mazairac won several awards for his designs, including Best Furniture Design from the Dutch Design Center (1984) and the Mobilia Innovation Prize (1987 and 1992). Since 1996, he has lived in Switzerland, focusing primarily on leisure design for holiday parks, hotels and restaurants.
