Explore the latest developments within the Arco collection during the furniture fair Qubique.
This new furniture fair is a showcase of a selection of international furniture brands at Berlin's decommissioned Tempelhof Airport this year from October 26 to 29.
Over two days dedicated to trade professionals and another two days dedicated to the general public, Qubique will bring together furniture experts and design fans from all over the world to this annual show.
Arco launched several new products this year in Milan, and it is striking to note that a new generation of designers is increasingly playing a role in the composition of the collection. Arco's completely updated HOME catalogue is now available.
It contains a full overview of the complete Arco collection, and also focuses on the latest products such as the the FAT, Pivot Desk, Pivot Vanity and the Cafe Chair.
Arco recently organised a workshop with the designers of the London-based Okay Studio. This is a logical follow-up to the Arco 12 project which took place in 2005 on the occasion of the company's 100th anniversary. At the time, 12 young Dutch designers were asked to come up with their own designs based on the collection and the company. Some of the results were later included in the Arco furniture collection, including the well-known Slim Table by Bertjan Pot.
Ten designers from the Okay Studio were challenged to create something in wood, based on the production possibilities available to Arco, which was totally different from the products in the existing collection. In other words: no tables, cabinets or chairs.

During the International Furniture Fair, which took place in Milan from 14-19 April,
Arco presented its brandnew product, chair Network
During the International Furniture Fair, which took place from January 19 - 24 in Cologne, Arco presented four new products in her fully redesigned showroom in the DesignPost building.
For the very first time in the history of Arco, an official Open Day was held on 29th November 2009. The guests to the event enjoyed a very original tour through the factory with the Arco employees as their expert guides. In order not to leave the visitors with an empty stomach, Arnhem based Restaurant ‘Look’ catered some very tasteful finger food and drinks. In between, Jorre van Ast, Henk Eigenbrood and Agerta Bokking explained about the developments within the 'new' Arco. To make the very first Arco Open Day complete, ‘Spinvis’ a Dutch success band treated the guests to a mini concert. The day after, those who had stayed overnight could enjoy a guided visit to the Mondrian House or a golf clinic.
We refreshed our offices! Every office space obtained its own atmosphere and function, of course by using our own furniture. New, fresh colors on the walls provided the 'finishing touch'.
CAFE CHAIR - Winner IF Award 2012, oktober 2011
The Cafe Chair by Jonathan Prestwich for Arco has received the “iF product design award 2012” this year for its outstanding design.
The “iF product design award” is a wide-ranging competition for all aspects of product design. Participants compete in a total of 16 different categories. The design award offers a platform for innovations and the opportunity to establish themselves. The "iF product design award" has been a trademark used to indicate outstanding design since 1953.
The internationally renowned jury of the iF product design award 2008 (among whom Jochen Hahne, James Irvine, Leo Lübke, Philipp Mainzer and Jasper Morrison) presided over by Fritz Frenkler, has selected Arco’s Slim Table (design Bertjan Pot), as winner in the category Furniture and moreover awarded it with the iF gold award.
The judgement of the jury: the Slim Table is a dining- and working-table, which is unbelievably pure with a construction that can be called a “floating little miracle”. The surface of the table is fabulous and the finishing “as beautiful, as one can only wish for”.
According to the jury report: ‘this year, we had a clear preference for original products. No Fusion, no Retro, no “pretending”. Only those who perceive the simplicity and the user-friendlyness of a product, can be successful in the long run and can create the ‘New Moderns’ (Fritz Frenkler).
With this award, the Slim Table ranges itself on the side of the iF gold award winners in other categories, such as the iPhone and the iPod nano of Apple, the Tiguan of Volkswagen or the Showerpipe of Antonio Citterio for Hansgrohe.

On Saturday October 18th, the Dutch Design Awards 2008 were presented. Wall cabinet Pivot, designed by Shay Alkalay won the award for ‘best residential product 2008’. In 2006 Arco received this prestigious award for the Slim table designed by Bertjan Pot.
The mission of the Dutch Design Awards is the appreciation of excellent Dutch design. The Dutch Design Awards intend to show and appreciate Dutch design in its widest sense. They wish to reflect the position of Dutch design in the world. The award undeniably represents the best works in The Netherlands at that particular moment.
Pivot is a surprising cabinet, which is ideally suited to storing small items and everyday necessities. The solid wood cabinet is built on tall legs and features two drawers. The innovative aspect of this cabinet is the fact that the drawers can hinge, making it possible to open both at the same time, which is impossible with a conventional set of drawers.
Arco will be present in a special exhibition at the Stockholm Furniture Fair from 4-8 February, showing wallcabinet "Pivot" (design Shay Alkalay) and chair "Fly" (design Ineke Hans).

The surprising and successful Pivot cabinet, which was designed in 2008 by the young Israeli designer Shay Alkalay, created a new typology by means of its drawers.
Arco is presenting two new versions of this unique cabinet.
Lowering it and combining it with an (integrated) top creates an unusually practical and also highly distinctive workstation. This Pivot Desk is extremely suitable for use in a living room but also in a hotel lobby, for example. It's easy to sit at with a laptop. The cabinet makes it possible to store your accessories and requirements in an attractive way.
The second variant is a make-up version (Pivot Vanity). The top has a recess which can be used to house a mirror.
During Salone Internazionale del Mobile Milano, april 2009, Arco has introduced the table
Nomad.

A Slim, Handy Console Table, maart 2008Pivot, a console table with a slight profile, has a flexible fanlike structure that allows its drawers to open simultaneously. Each drawer is slightly taller in back, so it catches on the piece above, holding it in place; the back of the table attaches to a screw drilled into the wall. Shay Alkalay, the product designer who created the table with Yael Mer, his partner at Raw-Edges Design Studio in London, said he envisions it in an entrance hall. “You put in your eyeglasses and your mobile phone and your keys,” he said, “and in the morning, when you’re really rushed,” you can save time by opening both drawers at once. Pivot is 40 inches high and 31 inches wide, and comes in various shades of lacquered oak ($2,200) and in natural walnut ($2,350), at M2L, 215 East 58th Street, (212) 832-8222.
